My first computer was an Apple II. I progressed to an Apple IIgs and then to Mac. But I still have my Woz Signature Apple IIgs and a box full of floppies with games and AppleWorks data.

I wanted a way to transfer all of my AppleWorks data from my IIgs to my Mac.
I searched the web for a solution and tried many things. But nothing let me do what I wanted to do.
The solution I came up with was this and it works very well...

PROBLEM:

When you receive an email with an audio attachment (for instance, voice memos sent by 'Say it & Mail it' from your iPhone to your Mac as a .wav file), you would expect to see a QuickTime audio player that lets you play the audio.
Instead, you may see an icon which requires you to double click to open the QuickTime Player app. Or you may see an iTunes icon which requires you to double click to open iTunes.

I was motivated by a news report showing an ABC correspondent having trouble getting through by phone to report a flock of oil-soaked pelicans. The news report made me realize that the iPhone is a great tool for reporting the location of birds needing help. It's built-in GPS capabilities make it a natural for reporting the location of birds needing help.

PROBLEM: When you log into your host, it always skips past the Login prompt and displays the Password prompt. Then you must hit return to get the Login prompt.

SOLUTION: Use the -K telnet option.
The -K option specifies no automatic login to the remote system.

There have been several requests to create a MacWise iPhone app. Unfortunately, that would require a jail-broken iPhone and a year of programming time. But the next best thing is actually very cool and has advantages over a limited-function iPhone app. It uses Virtual Network Computing (VNC) to let you see and control your Mac screen from anywhere on your iPhone. It's just as if you were sitting in front of your Mac using MacWise via your iPhone.

This release of MacWise adds a telnet option, "Use the tc shell to log in". When this option is enabled, MacWise first logs into the Mac unix tc shell before issuing telnet commands and opening the connection. This option provides more compatibility with host computers that request the terminal type. It could prevent error messages from the host such as "Connection refused by host" or "Invalid terminal type".
